Retrospective Gallery Two
The Next Step

The paintings become smaller and more abstracted

I supposed perhaps after working on two or three inch pieces of rock for three years, a 24" canvas seemed large enough to start with. I began to paint again, and found I didn't want to be restricted to fine details anymore. After scratching tiny aspects of designs into hard sedimentary rock, I just wanted to fling the paint around, but the large canvases seemed a bit too much for me to tackle.

After I had painted a few and had some new photos developed, I realized that they were beginning to resemble one another. I found this rather interesting, so began to compare a few.

Dew drop hanging off an evergreen needle on a misty, moisty day on Vancouver Island.

Painting

With a few touches of detail... the colour and mood are very similar.

Photo

These are rose petals. Rythm of the work is very similar to the painting.

Painting

With the same colours and a few touches, they really aren't that different.

Photo

This is a thistle preparing to burst its seeds.

Painting

The painting is very reminiscent of the thistle.
